Portsmouth introduced in October 2011 a new hygiene ratings system for Hotels and Guest Houses.The change has come inline with the new national hygiene rating scheme, which gives ‘scores on the doors’ for food businesses.
After an inspection by an environmental health officers, premises are given a sticker and certificate they can display, showing their food hygiene rating.The national scheme, run by councils and the Food Standards Agency. replaces a regional system.
There are six possible ratings, ranging from 0, for ‘urgent improvements needed’, to 5, for ‘very good’.
